It's 2019, a new year! The happiest so far, it's been not but that's because of this incredibly nasty headache that has been living with me well over a month now and happened to carry over into the new year. I've had a few days of feeling sorry for myself but after a really beautiful blessing, I'm determined to be positive about it. But, it definitely means I can't be on here often or for very long (it tends to make it worse) so a quick recap of our New Year's Eve ...
The beautiful thing about having a 4 year old and 1 year old ... they have no clue what time of day it is so we told them New Year's was at 5 pm! haha Nic looked up an old recorded ball drop from years past on YouTube and we watched it together on the driveway counting down the last 10 seconds! Liam thought it was the MOST fun and exciting thing ever!!
Nic accidentally mis-fired one of our big poppers before anyone was ready (haha!) but the other one and the 6 mini ones we had were sure to do the trick of welcoming in the new year! The kids loved dancing around in the confetti!
We taught Liam to bang on a pot with a spoon and Lyla just stood there grinning from ear to ear and looking absolutely adorable all bundled up!
Later that night I found myself singing Auld Lang Syne to Lyla as I quietly rocked her to sleep. I held her even longer than normal with this very real twinge inside that not only when I laid her down would my kids be another day older but we'd be into their next year of life as well.
In this season of life as a young mom, the days are long and exhausting but the years are short and slip between my finger tips ... so one of my biggest New Year's goals is to slow down, let the chores go when I can, and play with them more ... because I know all too soon there will come a day when they no longer want to play with me. I also know doing this will create some of the best memories for us and for a person whose love language is quality time, it means everything!
Happy New Year to you! Hope it's your best one yet! XO
