Happy Monday and Happy August! I'm reliving the weekend today in pictures and finding myself wanting to do it all over again, surprise surprise! I'm also realizing that 2/3 of our summer has already passed us by. Someone please tell me where June and July went?! Needless to say, we are enjoying every possible moment we can outside (like playing out in the front yard with the neighbor kids last night until 9:15, waaaay past bedtime. oops!) YOLO!
Our Friday night plans got moved to Saturday at the last minute so taco Tuesday became taco Friday followed by a spontaneous trip to McKee's petting zoo! It definitely did not disappoint! They had baby bunnies, miniature pigs, goats galore (I swear those things reproduce like bunnies!), puppies, the coolest old tortoise, and a new baby lama.
Isn't he regal?! I just love him! They also have all kinds of toys that kids can ride on and so naturally Liam takes it as his opportunity to play musical rides. After 2 seconds on the carousel he's bailing off the side to ride the horse drawn carriage. haha
After McKee's there were still a couple of hours until bed time so we decided to take Liam on his first hike up the City Creek trail. I was a little worried about how well he would do, obviously I knew we would probably be hiking at a snail's pace. In an area covered in dirt, rocks, and sticks though, it turned out to be his favorite environment ever! I don't think he went a moment without a rock or a stick in his hand. He wanted to hike the whole trail by himself but tripped on a big rock not 3 minutes into the hike and bloodied up his knee so he got chained to one of our hands for the rest of the hike. haha Not his favorite! The scenery up there is absolutely gorgeous, especially as the sun is dipping behind the mountain side! Even Liam thought so! haha He kept pointing at everything and gasping or saying "OH" or "WOW"!
Liam is in love with planes right now so he was in heaven when we spotted one in the sky during our hike ...
The theme of the hike was take two steps, stop to grab a rock. Take one step, stop to exchange the rock for a different rock. Take three steps, grab as many rocks as possible that will squeeze into one tiny little hand. I love the boy world, it's the best!
Halfway up our hike we got to cross a bridge with a small creek running underneath it. Liam started by being okay just pointing at it but then was bound and determined to find a way to touch it. haha
Liam carried around that stick he has in his hand for a quite a while and eventually he caught the edge of it on the ground and broke it in half. He made his usual scrunched nose, pouty eyebrows, pooched lips expression whenever he gets upset or disappointed. So daddy swooped in to save the day and grabbed both pieces from Liam while pretending to fuse the two back together to fix his "wand". Liam watched his every move carefully but noticed when Nic tried to discreetly toss one of the pieces into the bushes next to him and made this hilarious disappointed sound that I won't even attempt to mimic. haha That daddy is a regular old Olivander. :)
The view on the way down was even more beautiful because it overlooked the whole city!
Doing a little celebratory dance that we made it to the end! haha ;)
I sure love these two boys of mine so much!
We spent Saturday evening with Nic's mom. She recently moved homes so we helped her move around furniture and hang things on the walls while she made spaghetti for dinner and let me go through all of Nic's old baby clothes and shoes (oh the saltwater sandals, you guys!!) in return so it was a win, win! :)
Sunday evening we went on a long family walk after dinner and then played outside with the neighbors until the sun went down. Sometimes the simple weekends turn out to be the very best kind.
